In her twenties, Miep Gies didn’t think twice when her employer, Otto Frank, requested her assistance in concealing his family from the Nazis during World War II. Over the following two years, Miep, her husband Jan, and other supporters took care of the eight individuals hiding in the Secret Annex. It was Miep who discovered Anne’s Diary and preserved it, allowing Otto, the sole survivor among the eight, to eventually share it with the world as one of the most compelling narratives of the Holocaust.
