Ravayate Makhdush

This avant-garde film, which has been prohibited in Iran, employs fictionalized, grainy home video footage to narrate the tale of a toxic relationship between a prosperous middle-aged Iranian businessman and his 18-year-old wife, Goli. The story unfolds through the lens of a camcorder, which Goli received as a birthday gift from her husband. Goli has been living with him as his captive and sexual servant since he abducted her at the age of nine during the Kurdish rebellion. Now pregnant, Goli begins to assert herself, and when her husband discovers she has learned English and started reading, he tightens his control, further imprisoning her within their home.
