A young inmate becomes infatuated with a singer set to star in a new musical, for which the director is currently holding auditions. He manages to escape and, through a series of intricate and often hilarious events, ends up as the lead in the musical. However, the police catch up with him just a day before the premiere… but that’s enough spoilers! The narrative continues with sharp dialogue, fantastic music and singing, and a constantly evolving plot. The parallels between the play’s script and the real-life events make this one of the most delightful Czech films I’ve seen in years (and I’ve seen quite a few)! It’s a must-watch for fans of comedy, drama, musicals, and theater.
