When Maria, portrayed by Lisa Carlehed, encounters Niels for the first time, he appears to be a bitter and unkind young man. His ongoing illness has led him to focus on one desire: to travel to a Swiss care facility for assisted dying. However, to achieve this, he requires someone to accompany him as a volunteer.
