Hood
When RJ (played by Matt Singletary) returns to his hometown of Chicago after serving in the army for eight years, he is shocked to find that the streets he once knew now resemble the war-torn landscapes of the Middle East. His Uncle Richard, portrayed by Harlem Globetrotter Curley Boo Johnson, who has been his guardian since childhood, lays out the harsh realities of this urban battlefield: avoid going out after dark, as gangs, drugs, and money dominate these streets, and trust no one. Is there a way to break the cycle of violence, drive out the gangs, and protect the children? This contemporary adaptation of the Robin Hood legend intensifies the action and heroism while examining the underlying issues in Chicago’s neighborhoods. RJ emerges as a bow-wielding hero of the city. Together with Father Benjamin Tuck (Malik Yoba), Marian (Mahogany Monae), his childhood sweetheart who now manages the community center, and his former army comrades, RJ and his team are determined to dismantle the drug trade and end the gang warfare that has taken hold…
