Eating Up Easter
In “Eating Up Easter,” filmmaker Sergio M. Rapu turns his focus to his native land, where the Rapanui people are grappling with an environmental crisis brought on by excessive tourism and industrial development. Rapu narrates the film, sharing with his son the serious challenges facing Easter Island and the difficult choices its inhabitants must make. The documentary highlights the efforts of locals striving to navigate this challenging situation: an ecologist working to mitigate the escalating waste problem impacting both the island and its surrounding waters, two musicians endeavoring to create a free music school to help preserve cultural heritage, and Rapu’s father, the island’s former Governor, who finds himself torn between upholding cultural traditions and meeting the increasing demands of industry.
