Herb’s life is in shambles. He’s lost his welfare benefits, struggles to keep a job, can’t communicate with his son, has a chatty neighbor, and survives on a diet of cheap beer and mushy peas. He knows this isn’t a sustainable way to live.
One day, he sees a TV news segment revealing that Danish prisoners enjoy a much better quality of life: they have jobs, access to healthcare, the tranquility of the countryside, and even HDTVs. It’s as if they’re living in luxury hotels.
Determined to change his circumstances, Herb bids farewell to his grimy apartment and sneaks into Denmark on a cargo ship, arriving in a charming town that offers everything he needs—including a bank to rob. However, after encountering a friendly local barmaid and a lovable stray dog that refuses to leave his side, he starts to question whether prison is truly his only path to a fulfilling life.
