Six-year-old Cathy is placed in a rural foster home by a social worker, where she gradually adapts to the strict rules set by her foster mother, Réjeanne. Luckily, her foster father, Reynald, is kind-hearted and supportive, helping her to open up. Meanwhile, twelve-year-old Kayla is sent to a group home, where she befriends Morgane, a rebellious teen with plans to escape. Around the same time, Manu turns 18 and is released from the system, but she struggles to adjust to life on her own. The paths of all four cross at a reception celebrating a foster family they all once lived with.
