
A Gay Girl in Damascus: The Amina Profile
What begins as a typical online interaction between two strangers unexpectedly evolves into a case of startling international intrigue. Over several months, Sandra from Montreal and Amina, a Syrian-American, develop a deep romantic and intellectual connection. With Sandra’s encouragement, Amina starts a blog titled “A Gay Girl in Damascus,” giving a voice to the marginalized in the Middle East on issues of politics, religion, and sexuality. The blog quickly gains global attention, turning Amina into a prominent blogger. However, as Syria becomes embroiled in the Arab uprising of 2011, Sandra learns that Amina has been abducted, sparking a worldwide search and transforming the situation into an even greater mystery.
