Sawa works as a caregiver for a middle-class family, looking after their elderly, ailing grandfather. To maintain her employment, she is compelled to compromise her ethics. This leads to her financial ruin and homelessness. On her first night on the streets, she forms an uncertain bond with a benevolent elderly man, which allows her to tap into the vast wealth possessed by Japan’s older generation. She engages in more interactions like this, initially as schemes or acts of retribution against pervasive sexism, but these encounters gradually evolve into sincere exchanges between generations.
