Sue Silverman experiences a sense of neglect in her intimate life due to her husband Andrew’s dedication to his work. In response, she engages in a series of unfulfilling affairs, including one with Rick Hudson, a contractor and fellow charity organizer. Her encounter with Laurent Dekker, a French architecture writer, leads her to seek therapy from Dr. Robert Gardener, who uncovers a childhood issue at the heart of her behavior. By the time Sue is prepared to enter a rehabilitation clinic for her addiction, Andrew has lost interest, and she continues to face temptation even in that environment.
