Ministry of Love

A biting comedy centered on relationships and bureaucracy, this film follows Kreso, a qualified biologist facing a midlife crisis. Disenchanted and unemployed, he’s trapped in a marriage that was ill-fated from the start, though his son still admires him. Meanwhile, the financially struggling government is seeking innovative ways to cut costs. Over two decades after the war of the 1990s, they target the widows of fallen soldiers, deciding that those who are unmarried but in new relationships will lose their military pensions. To implement this unpopular policy, a new agency is created: The Ministry of Love, tasked with identifying widows who violate the rule. With little to lose, Kreso is reluctantly nominated by his overbearing father-in-law. However, paired with his quirky partner Sikic, Kreso is entirely unsuited for the role.
